Now, like any guy out there, I enjoy the occasional pretty lady now and then. Just to look at, of course, as women are objects of perfection to be placed on a pedestal and gazed at and never touched. That said, I've noticed in my tenure as a fan of indie rock that there are a lot of hottie-boom-botties to be found in this genre.
First up is occasional New Pornographers femme fatale Neko Case. Now first off, she has red hair and pale skin, which (as anyone who knows me already knows) nets her an instant 100 points plus. Beyond that, though, she's a total babe with a voice to match. Also she apparently loves beavers, and I respect anyone who adores our fine buck-toothed, dam-building animal brethren.
Next up is piano lady extraordinaire Regina Spektor. The first time I ever saw Regina was in her video "Us" on MTV2, where she's dressed up in a sort of elegant 40's garb and matching hairstyle. Being a big fan of vintage women's fashion (
both to
wear and look at), she grabbed my attention immediately. Also I have a poster of her chugging a 40 next to my bed, which just contributes to her classiness.
Here we have former Sleater-Kinney frontwoman Corin Tucker. She's a little plainer than some of the other ladies, but on the other hand she's so angry that I don't think I could say no even if I tried. And damn, can she wail my inhibitions away with that voice of hers.
Jenny Lewis is just cute as a button. How could you resist that? Plus she was in
The Wizard the greatest movie/Nintendo commercial/Fred Savage vehicle ever filmed. The Watson Twins aren't bad either, I suppose, but they don't compare. Here's a haiku I wrote about Jenny Lewis:
Jenny where are you
I am lost in the ether
Obama oh-eight
wait just a minute how did this get here
Last up is The Pipettes - all three of them. They're adorable, and between the three of them they represent both the hot girls with glasses and the hot brunette subgroups. Plus there's just so much sass it's like a sass volcano ready to erupt sass all over the city of Sasseii.
So if you're a guy like me, or some sort of girl who likes other girls, who are some of your favorite ladies of indie rock?
